''Macanese is the name of Macau's culture and it is highly influenced by both Chinese and Portuguese cultures.''
In our knowledge, Macau is a former colony of Portugal, and was returned back to China in 1999. Now, it becomes a special administrative region of China, which maintains separate governing and economic systems from those of mainland China under the principle of "one country, two systems". However, you can still see the unique ''east-meets-west'' culture present today, such as in buildings, transport and cuisine.
I think it would be really nice to inherit this historical culture and express it visually in this special occasion, Chinese New Year, and make a new attempt to make CNY more culturally inclusive in Macau.
Therefore, the concept of merging the classic Chinese lantern with the Portuguese hand-drawn ''Azulejo'' pattern came across in my head, as it presents both traditions in a modern language.
